Where are they now? - Dale Murphy

Over the course of his stellar baseball career, Murphy's religious beliefs never dampened his competitive fire, yet players and fans alike were always aware of his faith.

So it should come as no surprise that Murphy, who adopted the Mormon faith two decades ago after being raised in a Presbyterian household, now works full time in the Mormon church.

Murphy, 41, is in charge of missionaries in the Boston area for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He oversees the training and work of young members fulfilling the church's expectation that they devote two years men or 18 months, women respectively, to church service.

Murphy played 14 seasons with the Atlanta Braves before closing his career, with stints with the Philadelphia Phillies and Colorado Rockies. After retiring, he taught religious school in Roswell, Georgia, and served as a bishop, leading a congregation in Utah. He began his post in Boston in July of last year.

Murphy and his wife of 18 years, Nancy, have eight children.
